Assistant Trade & Investment Officer - UK Trade & Investment

The British Embassy is looking for an Assistant Trade & Investment Officer to cover a temporary position.


Job Description: Duties and responsibilities

To work as a team providing effective support to the Trade & Investment Officer:
· in helping UK-based companies find business opportunities in the industries of Life Sciences and Health, Financial and Agri-technology
· in promoting the UK to Spanish companies as the most attractive location for inward investment and by providing them with relevant information and contacts to assist their investment.

The Main Duties include:


Support in Trade & Investment Services by providing support in organising events, support looking for potential buyers and/or distributors, arrange and attend appointments with local companies, support in managing the relationship with the companies in the UK and provide support material for Officer's meetings/visits. This involves cold calling to Spanish companies.

Research: Internet, yellow pages, databases and other research; market research (economic/statistical/sectorial);

Data input to Contacts & Investors Databases; send content to be updated for website; compile quarterly statistics; liaison with HQ as required;

Administration: Handle general telephone, mail and fax enquiries; maintain filing system;

The Successful Candidate will have previous experience of working in a similar position, knowledge of the Spanish business environment and will be able to demonstrate the following:

· Fluency in both English and Spanish as it will be necessary on a daily basis. Knowledge of Catalan (whilst not a requirement) would be considered a real asset.

· Effective work and time management - able to handle, in a calm and professional manner, the multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities of the role.

· Excellent communication skills – written and oral – working with stakeholders at varying levels, and an excellent telephone manner.

· Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues on shared objectives, proactive and open to new ideas.

· IT skills (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel)

· Some experience in the Life Sciences and Health or Financial sectors would be valuable


Working hours: 37.5 per week.

Salary: Gross salary is € 2.046 (non-negotiable) per month payable twelve times a year

Social Security: The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Spanish Social Security Scheme and will therefore not be entitled to any gratuity from the Embassy/Consulate based on gross annual salary.

Income Tax: The Embassy is a Diplomatic Mission with tax exempt status and does not collect taxes for other States. Employees are fully responsible for payment of Spanish income tax at the legally required rate.

Contract:
Temporary contract subject to successful completion of a three-month probationary period.

Starting Date: ideally by 11th October 2010.
